C0 (Non-Fluorinated) Water Repellent: Eco-Friendly, High-Performance Protection for Sustainable Textiles
As global environmental standards tighten and demand for sustainable products grows, the textile industry is rapidly shifting toward safer, greener solutions. C0 (non-fluorinated) water repellent technology is at the forefront of this movement, offering high-performance water protection without the environmental and health risks of traditional fluorinated chemicals.
What Is C0 (Non-Fluorinated) Water Repellent?
C0 water repellents—also known as non-fluorinated, PFC-free, or fluorine-free water repellents—are advanced textile finishing agents that provide durable water resistance without using any perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), PFOA, or PFOS. Unlike C6 or C8 fluorocarbon-based repellents, C0 products contain no perfluorinated compounds at all, so the finish itself falls outside PFAS restrictions written for fluorinated chemistry.
Key Features and Benefits
Fluorine-Free & PFC-Free:
No PFOA, PFOS or fluorinated compounds in the formulation. Specified by mills working to brand restricted-substance lists that exclude fluorochemistry.

How Does C0 Water Repellent Work?
C0 water repellents use innovative chemistries—such as silicone, paraffin, acrylic, or plant-based polymers—to create a hydrophobic (water-repellent) barrier on fabric surfaces. These agents provide durable protection while keeping the fabric soft and breathable, making them ideal for eco-conscious brands and manufacturers.
What C0 Cannot Do
C0 finishes repel water. They do not repel oil. That is a property of the chemistry rather than of the grade: only a densely packed perfluorinated surface falls below the surface tension of oils, so no fluorine-free finish will shed oil, whatever the supplier.Where a specification calls for oil and soil repellency — workwear, chef wear, upholstery, automotive interiors — a C6 finish is the correct route. Mills normally move to C0 because a brand customer has set a fluorine-free requirement, not because it outperforms C6.
Why Switch to C0 Water Repellents?
Modern C0 chemistries deliver water repellency and wash durability comparable to fluorinated finishes. What they cannot do is repel oil. As global regulations become stricter and consumer awareness rises, non-fluorinated water repellents are expected to become the industry standard for truly eco-friendly textiles.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is C0 Water Repellent as effective as fluorinated alternatives?A: For water, yes — CK GUARD N-SERIES gives water repellency and wash durability comparable to fluorinated finishes. For oil, no. Fluorine-free chemistry cannot repel oil, so oil and soil repellency still needs a C6 finish.
Q: Can I use C0 Water Repellent on all types of textiles?
A: Absolutely. Our formulations are suitable for cotton, blends, synthetics, and even synthetic leather.
Q: How can I request samples or technical support?
A: Please contact us through our official website or by phone. Samples are available on request. Tell us the substrate, the application method and the performance you have to meet, and we will advise what to send.
