CK GUARD WR-SERIES uses a C6 fluorocarbon polymer. Applied to the fibre surface, the fluorocarbon chains orient outward and lower the surface energy of the fabric below that of both water and oil. That dual reduction is what allows the finish to repel oil-based stains — cooking oil, cosmetics, body oils — as well as water.
CK GUARD N-SERIES uses a non-fluorinated polymer system instead. It also lowers surface energy relative to water and produces comparable beading, but it does not go low enough to repel liquids of lower surface tension such as oils. That is a structural limit of fluorine-free chemistry generally rather than a formulation gap, and it is why N-SERIES is positioned for water repellency only.
